To help prevent vaginal prolapse:

  • Do Kegel exercises regularly, especially before and after childbirth.
  • Avoid constipation.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • If you smoke, quit . Smoking may cause chronic coughing and weakening of connective tissues.
  • Limit heavy lifting.
  • Avoid birth canal trauma at childbirth.
