Many women experience changes in their sex lives after menopause, and these changes can be both frightening and exciting. Questions often frequently arise during menopause dealing with lose of libido, vaginal dryness, and why is it so difficult to reach an orgasm.
Busy schedules, and stress can also affect a woman's sexual desire making it even more difficult for couples to spend romantic interludes together. This lose of intimacy can have a disastrous effect on a relationship, causing many couples to drift apart and can even dissolve a relationship. To help keep a relationship close and intimate, here are a few tips for great sex after menopause.
Communication is Key:
If communication is a problem in the relationship, now is the perfect time to begin open and honest discussions. When couples are not emotionally close with each other, their sex life will begin to suffer. Most women experience menopause after their children have grown, and careers are more settled. This period of slowing down is the perfect opportunity to begin rebuilding the closeness in a relationship.
Change Sexual Routines:
Any couple will benefit from a change in their sexual routine. It could be anything as simple as engaging in intercourse before enjoying an evening out, or spending an evening in bed giving each other intimate massages. A sudden overnight stay at a romantic hotel is another good way to change the routine. Anything that is a variation from the usual sexual routine can add spice and excitement to any couple's romantic love life.
Engage Frequently in Sexual Activities:
During and after menopause, a woman's hormonal levels begin to decline. This lose of estrogen can cause of woman's vagina to become dry and even tear during intercourse. Engaging in sexual activities either solo or with a partner can help to keep the vaginal tissue moist and soft, which helps to prevent uncomfortable or painful intercourse.
Sex Does Not Have to Mean Intercourse:
Sexual activity does not always have to include intercourse, and spending time with a partner in a romantic setting can also help to improve a relationship. While these romantic activities may eventually lead to sexual intercourse, they are also a great way to improve the level of intimacy two people share with each other. Try taking a warm bath together, or curl up on the couch and watch a romantic movie together. It is often the small moments that help cement a couple together.
Consider Using Toys:
Many women find that they are more sexually adventurous after menopause, and using sexual toys, lubricants, and oils is a safe and exciting way for a woman to spice up her sex life. Lubricants can also be used to help combat vaginal dryness which can also be an unwelcome side effect of menopause.
For many women, menopause is a frightening and confusing time. Hormonal changes are occurring at an alarming rate, and women are forced to accept the fact that they are aging. For some women, it is necessary to see a health care provider to help relieve some of the symptoms associated with menopause. Hormonal therapy such as low doses of estrogen or testosterone are common treatments for low sexual drive and vaginal dryness.
Menopause does not have to be the end of a woman's sex life, and for some women it is only the beginning. While it is common to suffer from some unwanted side effects from the lower hormonal levels in the body, it does not have to mean that a woman's sex life is over. With open and honest communication, it is possible for a woman to have an exciting and satisfying sex life after menopause.

Women in menopause, one message to you, "Get on BHRT!" Find a specialist, get all of your hormones back and end the side effects! You do not have to suffer. Your body can continue reacting as it did when you were younger, by replacing your hormones. I know there was a scare from the Womens Health Initiative years ago. The major problem with that is, women were being prescribed estrogen pills like pez candy. They often were not tested to see where their levels were. They were usually prescribed estrogen only. Yes, we need estrogen, and it relieves most of the menopause symptoms...But, too much of anything in our bodies is a Bad Thing. We have 3 hormones, not just 1. We need to be balanced! Our entire lives our bodies kept a balance, with the levels taking turns raising and falling through our monthly cycles. We still need all 3 hormones, at any age. Now, you do not have to have PMS, or deal with your period, so get your hormones back! They improve your health & quality of life. Research your options and I wish you the best of luck in your future. - Cris
