It’s 2:30 a.m. and I am sitting by the pool listening to the ocean, worried that I am being eaten alive by mosquitos. I am trying to take advantage of the wi-fi here on the beach since my parents don’t get it in their condo. It’s kind of relaxing, yet a little eerie since I haven’t slept much the past few days and I am paranoid from all of the night sounds and creatures.
Just a few minutes ago I saw a raccoon hobbling around looking for food! Who knew that there would be raccoons on Cozumel! The last time I saw one was when I was a kid living in Bellevue, Wa. We used to go camping along the coast over Thanksgiving and there were always a slew of raccoons that would come to the campsite fire at night. They would scamper around exploring for food and when they were finished they would wash their hands in a bucket of water that we kept by the fire and then run off into the darkness.
Last night was our last night in Playa Del Carmen. I spent most of the day relaxing inside since it was downpouring rain. It literally was raining sideways and looked like some of the rooms were flooding. Kathy actually fell down some steps on a bridge because it was so slick and hurt her back pretty bad. She is fine now, but has a big scratch and bruise where she hit the ground.
Last night we went to the outside bar and sipped on some daquiris. They actually were pretty tasty and for the first time in one and a half years I caught a buzz. The hotel had a band playing and later a fire show with some funky house music. It was nice to relax and settle into the warm fuzzy feeling while watching spits of fire dancing through the dark night air.
This morning we were scheduled to meet up with dad and Barb. They had a doctors appointment in Playa Del Carmen so we met them at the clinic. It worked out perfectly since I was short on some blood clot medication and needed to get a prescription for a refill. They knew the doctor so he was able to give me a prescription no problem.
After our visit to the doctor, we headed towards the ferry to board for Cozumel. We stopped to grab some lunch along the way and then hurried off to the boat. Just as we were standing in line ready to board, it started downporing. The boat was dancing back and forth and Kathy and I were moaning just thinking about the 30 minute sea sick hell ride ahead of us. I had to laugh at the whole situation.
I was laying down trying to make my body compact enough to fit on two chairs, while holding the laptop in one arm and an ice pack in the other holding to my head. Kathy looked like she was turning green and had her eyes shut. The boat attendants made their rounds passing out barf bags for the guests on the ferry. Meanwhile, their was a band playing at the front of the ferry. Where in the world would you ever find a ferry that has a live band (playing inside) with a bar, 80’s TV sets and barf bags. The whole scene was too comical.
Thankfully, we made it to the island with our stomachs still in tact. Barbs friend came to pick us up at the dock and we were on our way finally to their place. The rest of the day was filled with rain, wind, rain, wind, failed internet connections, rain, another failed internet attempt, more rain, swearing at the computer because I couldn’t get a damn signal for wi-fi and more rain.
Tomorrow hopefully will be a little sunny. I need some darn sunlight! I am already low on my vitamin D! Dad and Barb have a couple of little motorcycles that they use to get around the island, so transportation will consist of catching rides with friends or taxis if it rains again. I would love to ride the bikes around the island. Last time I was here we really spent most of the time on the front side of the island. We drove through the main road that cuts through the middle of the island and stopped to check out some ruins.
