Most people will say that it is a parent's job to worry, which is kind of true, but worrying is just the first step. What you have to do is be prepared so that you are ready to deal with any possible issue. Sure, some boo-boo's do not require more than just a kiss to make things better, but some accidents require a little more like the ones mentioned below.
Drowning
One of the scariest types of accidents is an accidental drowning. This can be quite traumatizing and life-threatening. You want to get your child out of the water and lay him or her on a firm surface. Try to perform CPR and have someone call for help. Continue to perform CPR until help arrives. Those who do not know CPR might want to try to take a few courses just in case.
Sprain
Sometimes kids have a hard time figuring out if something is dangerous. Sprains are something that you have to be prepared to deal with just in case. Sprains usually happen on the finger or ankle. You want to make sure your child rests, and you have to apply an ice pack every 10 to 20 minutes every two hours. You can try to use a compression wrap to decrease swelling; just make sure it is not too tight. A bandage that is too tight will feel numb, painful, or even cool. Keep your sprained injury elevated and above the heart for about two to three hours a day.
Dog Bite
Another issue that some kids have to deal with is a dog bite. The severity of the bite varies, but it is important to make sure you call for help. Be sure that you also take your kids to an emergency care center for additional help. You want to try to stop the bleeding by putting a clean towel on the bite mark. Make sure the affected area is elevated before you wash the bite area with soapy water. Wait for help to arrive, though you can place a sterile bandage if possible.
A Burn
Burns are something kids might get at some point, and you need to be ready for it. What you want to do is cool the burn, and this is done by simply running cool water on the burn. Make sure it is not cold but cool water. Keep the injured area under water until the pain goes away. Try to protect the burn with a sterile and non-adhesive bandage or cloth. See your doctor or at least call a nurse to find out if you need to go in and see a doctor for the burn. If you’re short on cash, a facility like Rocky Mountain Urgent Care or a similar clinic can be a cheaper alternative than a trip to the emergency room.
Keep in mind that accidents are going to happen, even if you are prepared. You do not have to beat yourself up about it because you are already trying to do as much as you can for your child.

Great post, thank you.
I think drowning has to be one of the scariest things for parents, especially with very young children. It can happen in 6 inches of water so even a simple daily bath needs a parents full attention. Burns too - daily cooking can cause lifetime scarring if an accident happens.
