Advocacy, Leadership and Caring - That is the theme for this year's National Nurses Association Nurses Week 2012. When I was teaching nursing full-time, it was a time of celebration and student creativity for our program. I want to keep that warm energy flowing through my wellbeing coaching practice!
This year, I will be offering a FREE teleclass to nurses, student nurses and future nurses, focusing on the National Nurses Week theme. The call is about the positive psychology-based strengths behind this year's theme. From a wellbeing perspective, strengths are our "super fast internet connections" with life. We all have some dominant ones . . . and using strengths daily in our work can increase our professional engagement.
Specifically, the call will focus on:
* Advocacy as the strengths of altruism and bravery
* Leadership as the strengths of leadership and teamwork
* Caring as the strengths of love and kindness
Positive psychology is based on strengths, or focusing on what is right with people. So, let’s take the first step. One of the first “application exercises” done in most positive psychology courses is to discover your own strengths. My challenge to each of you is to spend 20 minutes or so taking the VIA survey of character strengths located on Dr. Seligman’s research Web site - http://www.authentichappiness.sas.upenn.edu/default.aspx. (Readers will need to get a log-in and will find the test link about half-way down on the page.) And, please bring your results to the Nurses Week teleclass for discussion.
For more information (and registration) on the course - please visit my website - http://www.midwifeofchanges.com/nurses_week_2012_wellbeing_teleclass . There will be a class on Nurses Day (May 6, 2012) and Student Nurses Day (May 8, 2012) You will need to register on the site to receive the phone # and PIN for the class. The times listed on the site are in Mountain - please convert to your own time zone. I welcome your ideas and hope to "see" you in class!
