I was going through my mail this weekend and noticed that I had gotten a bill for my recent ultrasound. The ultrasound was requested by my in-network doctor and done by an in-network facility. I am not used to paying anything or very little for ultrasounds. However, I owe $282 for this one. I looked at my bill and original price for the ultrasound is $1,250, and with hospital and insurance adjustments it went down to $282, which I still believe is outrageous. Apparently, this is to meet a deductible.
I have relatively good health insurance and I can't believe that I have to pay so much for an ultrasound that the doctor requested. I cannot believe that a routine ultrasound really costs that much. It really makes me concerned for people who have lesser insurance than me or no insurance at all. Clearly, we know that our healthcare system is broken, this is just one more example of this.

That does seem pretty crazy. I've not heard of an ultrasound being that expensive either. With the outrageously high deductibles that so many of us have these days, it's easy to forego tests like this because of the cost. I have my annual mammogram coming up, but I'm actually going to have to put it off because of the cost. I too have decent health insurance (through Blue Cross Blue Shield), but the deductible is horrendous, so I basically have to pay everything out of pocket.
