Have you ever judged a person by what they look? Have you ever noted that some people seem to be more welcoming and friendly than others? If Apart from your environment, food you consume and hygiene, your emotions too can have adverse effects on your looks since they are capable of building complications on your skin. When someone is sad, anxious or stressed, the body always reacts to such emotions by releasing hormones which are capable of changing our skin complexions. Most aggressive people usually have a scaring look such that one can tell the type of a person you are even without saying a word. Likewise, cheerful people usually have a smile on their face which gradually develops an adorable curvature easily noted by everyone. When you are happy, the body feels relaxed and healthy by giving your skin a healthier and radiant look that everybody enjoys. Additionally, it is a biologically proven phenomenon that what we think, feel or act has some effects on our body reaction so let’s take a look on some of the most common effects that our emotions triggers.
Rashes and spots
Emotions trigger some biological reactions such as anger, anxiety, trauma and mood swings. Anxiety, in particular, can cause rashes on your skin through stress and depression. Stress is a health hazard as it puts your body in a state of unnecessary tension which triggers the release of hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol in the blood stream. The latter leads to massive skin reactions such as itchiness and restlessness. Additionally, Stress raises the sensitivity of your skin, making you vulnerable to skin reaction catalysts such as sunscreens and lotions. People with conditions such as herpes, psoriasis and eczema are the most affected by stress as it stimulates them to remain active in your body making them even worse. Anger and trauma also trigger skin ailments which gradually develops rashes and later spots on your skin.
Hormonal imbalances
The human body is made up of various systems which work together to give you a healthy living. Emotions bring about hormonal imbalances which cause inflammation and other skin complications as the body’s defense mechanism try to respond to such unusual stimuli. For instance, your emotions stimulate the release of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, which are responsible for motivation and mood swings respectively. Mood changes from the latter aggravate your alimentary canal resulting to an overgrowth of small intestinal bacteria that leads to body inflammation. In extreme cases, this leads to skin disease.
General aches and pains
Every emotion you experience makes your system alert to respond to the way feel, think or act. When you are anxious about a certain phenomenon or upset by something, your body metabolism changes to alert you that something is wrong. A stressful or a traumatizing event alarms your body by developing hypertension, stomach ulcers, headache, insomnia and other general aches and pains. Women, in particular, are the most vulnerable creatures since their bodies usually involve a lot of hormonal processes and they are usually the most affected when their moods are not appealing. These will obviously change your looks and somebody can notice that you are failing.
Skin dehydration and acne
Being in a bad mood leads to skin dehydration, this leads to your skin developing wrinkles that make you look older than you really are, and unhealthy too. Stressful events hinder the production of collagen making your skin weak and unhealthy. The cycle of skin dehydration and stress continues as dehydration inhibits the general ability to make reasonable decisions and control moods which lead to even a more stressful situation scientific research also shows that stress also leads to a common skin condition known as acne. This disease is caused by the accumulation of sebum which mixes with dead cells creating pimples on your face. Anger, in turn, affects our facial or zygomatic muscles by decelerating the skin’s ability to heal, this stimulates wrinkling as well as leads to the production of dark spots. Additionally, the cells’ ability to heal after injuries is inhibited when a person is not feeling comfortable.
Insomnia, puffy eyes, and dullness
Emotions such as sadness which is usually caused by depression causes vigorous frowning of eyebrows deepens the wrinkle lines on your face further. Hormones that are capable of affecting your sleeping-patterns become aroused when you are depressed leading to sleeplessness, puffy eyes and dullness. Depression also leads in over-production of cortisol whose effects include premature hair loss, increased melanin, and unnecessary weight gain. Noticeably, a stressed person usually has a dull face and one can easily realize that something somewhere has gone amiss.
Moving to the positive side, happy emotions yields healthier and happy looks. Dermatologists research shows that when you are happy, your skin appears brilliant and healthy as well as the growth of your hair and nails become stimulated. A person’s mood can be told simply by her posture. If your mood is good, you stand tall, upright and portray a good image about what you feel, think or even act. In contrast, a sad person will always appear uncomfortable and will be likely to slouch telling you that his or her moods are not comforting. A happy man stimulates the production of his estrogen hormone which makes his hair shiny and radiant. The opposite is also true.
Appealing emotions make your skin glow since the skin becomes well-hydrated and there is adequate blood circulation in the body which makes you look healthier.
As a parting shot, negative emotions and moods will always affect our skin in other many ways other than the health hazard effects. For instance, when some people are moody, they become careless with their bodies in a variety of ways. Some become unhygienic in that they don’t comb their hair or cut their nails short, others engage themselves in unnecessary fights which can easily injure their bodies while others lack the motivation to tender their skin which all yields negative results.
Always avoid getting emotional and take some responses in a positive way to avoid anger and stress. Your skin needs to be protected always.
