Hello everyone,
I am 24 hrs post-procedure from the cryoablation. I promised myself that if my experience was good that I would post my story on her because when I was doing my research I couldn't find a good experience.
Well I'm a 27 year old mother of 1. Yes, I'm young to have the procedure, but it was needed. I have very heavy and painful periods every month that lasted about 7 days each month. I never knew when to expect it. My husband and I decided that 1 child was enough for us. He had a vasectomy about 2 1/2 years ago. My doctor of course recommended medications first (provera) I tried it -didn't like it, and decided to have the ablation.
The day of my cryoablation I arrived at the doctors office 1 hour and 15 mins early. I was told that before I came I should eat a light breakfast and have a semi-full bladder. I was put into a room and given Triazolam, Vicodin, and a shot of Ketorolac. Just before the procedure I was taken into the ultrasound room and my bladder was checked. For this procedure a full bladder is needed. My doctor came in and explained the procedure and what to expect afterwards (cramping, discharge). I was given a shot in my vaginal area to numb me up. I didn't feel that shot at all. Then I had to have my cervix dilated. This was pretty painful, but not unbearable. The next thing I knew the probe was in and we had started. The procedure lasted about 15 mins. During the procedure I felt nothing-no pain, no pressure, nothing at all. After the probe was out I layed on the table for about 10-15 mins. Then I was able to get up and empty my bladder. Well, this is where I ran into problems. I was escorted into the bathroom by my ultrasound tech. I got up to get dressed once I was finished and instantly had to go lay down. I had severe cramping, got very hot and sweaty, and lightheaded. My doctor, ultrasound tech, and nurse were by my side until all my reactions subsided. The feelings lasted about 5 mins. and then they were gone. I'm not sure if I stood up to quick and my blood pressure dropped or if my body was reacting to the procedure (probably a little of both). After that I was taken to a recovery room and rested there for about 30-45 mins.
I'm just over 24 hours post-procedure. I had cramping yesterday that I took vicodin for (I was sent home with a few just in case of bad cramping). Since I woke up this morning the only thing I have taken is ibuprofen for very mild cramps. I have a very light bloody discharge and mild cramping. I'm not doing much physically-making lunch, using the bathroom, just taking it easy. I would say the procedure went very well. Now my doctor did tell me that because my age I would likely still have a monthly period, just a much lighter one (Yippie). I am absolutely fine with that. Once my period returns in a month or so I'll get on here and post how it is.
I just wanted all of you ladies to know that not everyone has a bad or painful experience. I couldn't of expected mine to be any better.

I'm a 45 y/o mother of 2 who has always suffered with heavy periods and large clotting that last 7 days. My gyn had recommended this procedure to me for years. Due to fear..... I put the procedure off. On November 14, three days into my cycle, I hemmorraged and had to go the the ER. I was severely anemic and knew I had to make a decision on what to due about my abnormal uterine bleeding. I saw my gyn on 11/17 and he once again gave me my options, one of the three being the uterine ablation. After much consideration I decided to have the uterine ablation. My procedure was yesterday,1/9/2015. So far so good! My experience was much better than I anticipated. I've had little to no pain. The entire experience on a scale of 1 to 10 in pain , for me was a 3. The only time I felt anything was when the probe was inserted into my uterus. I had a strong cramp , that's it. Very little cramping followed the procedure and clear discharge. So far I've been blessed. Hopefully the next few days will be just as smooth. I pray this is a success for my abnormal uterine bleeding. I will keep updating. With what I've experienced thus far, I would recommend the procedure and if it helps eliminate my AUB, I will definitely recommend the procedure. God bless all who suffer with AUB and other female problems.

I am scheduled to have the Cryoablation procedure on Monday morning July 14th 2014 bright and early. I'm excited to hopefully have some balance in my life. But the one question that I have after reading many of the stories written. Can this procedure be done if your on your period at the time of the procedure?

I hope my outcome will be something as nice. Still unsure but reading what you experienced give me some hope. *it is always nice to have Hope*. I want so much to have this type of procedure but not too sure if due to the amount etc of my fibroids it can be possible. I don't ever want them to reoccur. Thanks for sharing your story.

I'm a 34 year old mother of 2. I gave birth to my second child in 2010 & had been bleeding almost constantly for 19+ months since her birth. My uterus was enlarged to almost twice normal size & I was diagnosed with adenomyosis. I had the cryoablation procedure yesterday morning. So far, I haven't had a lot of discharge or much blood at all. And my cramping is more along the lines of having done 100 situps rather than what I'm used to during my periods. I'm actually concerned because everything seems to have gone a little too well. The Dr had to do 3 freeze areas and it took about 14 minutes total to get everything. I keep reading that there's discharge and cramping, but I'm not experiencing any of that. Has anyone else had this done & not had any of the common side effects?

Update:
I started having a light bloody/watery discharge about a day ago. Which my docs said should be starting soon. I've had some mild cramping that ibuprofen takes care of. Other than that everything has been great!
I did however end up with an infection 6 days after the procedure. My doctor said the infection was not from my surgery. I had a throat infection and bladder infection. I ended up in the hospital for a few days and received IV antibiotics. My infection is clearing up and I feel great.
I will update again in a few weeks...

Thanks Kimberlee, it's nice to hear from you again. Sorry you're dealing with an infection but glad it's clearing up. Most of all though it's wonderful that you feel great! Look forward to your next update. Pat

I am 28 hours post ablation and wanted to post. Age 40, 3 kids and periods that are light but last 13 days or so..this sounded great. Got to the dr office, recieved a shot of Toradol and declined the Valium. The numbing of the cervix was an ouch, but fast! The procedure was nothing sat there talking to the ultrasound tech about upcoming wedding plans. Hope this works...anything beats a 13 -14 day flow!

kimberlee117 - Thanks so much for sharing your story, which is going to help other women down the road who are thinking about having the procedure. Will you stay in touch over the next few weeks and keep us posted on your recovery? And, of course, if you have any questions along the way, we'd be happy to help.
July 14, 2010 - 6:53pmIt's nice to know that this has worked out so well for you!
Take care, Pat
