Hi
I am 45 years old, I was diagnosed with a learning disability when I was young, ADHD, but I did not received support from my parents so I had low confidence and search to much approbation. I took a neuropsychology test and was diagnosed with ADHD mostly with attention defficit. I became codependant, pleasing the control from others, boyfriends. I met my husband 14 years ago, he was a professionnal workaddic but I tought it was a quality. Until he judged me with my ADHD and underaccomplishment. I take pristiq and concerta. He was passive-agressive with me and I depreciated myself. I waited so long because I tried to understand him first. I went to therapy because he tought it was my problem, he was the family leader. I was working 36hrs a week in a work I disliked. With my therapy it made him realized he did not love me anymore and he ask for a separation. I found myself very dependant, I decided to go back to school at 45 years old. I cannot change myself, but maybe I can change my situation... English is not my first language, sorry.

Danyzina,
It sounds like you're in the perfect place and time to start your studying! Special Education is an incredible choice. You will be sensitive and intuitive and wise, because you have seen more of what life has to offer. The kids who get you as their teacher will be lucky kids indeed.
I am so glad that the Concerta and Pristiq are working for you. And feeling like you are in your twenties is a good thing no matter what the mirror says! In our twenties, we feel like everything is possible if we are willing to work for it. We feel freer and we feel that we are more in charge of our own destiny. I hope you can feel like that, Danyzina, and not just simply feel that you are older.
I'm very proud of all it took for you to get to this place. You should be, too. Congratulations!

Thank you so much for your comment. Concerta help me very much. But by priority is with my self-esteem, because competition in life hurt me much in the past. I start studying Special Education, I am waiting an answer for a bursary next week. I just relocate near that school and rent a room. It feels like I am in my twenties, except in the mirror I dont look like one. I waited so long because I tought I could not help others if I was to sensible, but my opinion changed. Pristiq is better than Paxil, I started usind this antidepressant 3 years ago. It was the first time, but I could not stop it because of side effect and my doctor retired, so when I found another one I started a therapy and change for Pristiq. My sexuality was at zero with Paxil and I was married.

Danyzina,
Welcome to EmpowHER. And thanks so much for writing.
I am very impressed with your English, even if it is not your first language!! You manage the language very well.
I also have ADHD, though I was not diagnosed until later in life. It does affect everything about us, doesn't it? However, it can also make us more creative, more detail-oriented and more sensitive, so it's certainly not all bad.
How long have you been taking the Concerta? Does it help you focus? When you take it, are you better able to get things done that you want to get done?
How long have you been taking the Pristiq? Have you felt it start to help lift your depression?
I am REALLY proud of you that you are going back to school. I also went back to school, at age 43. You will find that you are not the only older person in school -- many people around that age are changing careers and need some more education, and so the age range in many classes includes everything from 19-year-olds to retirees!!
Also, in some cases I think older students do better because they really, really want to be there.
What do you plan to study, Danyzina?
Is there anything we can help you research?
