I work in an environment with several people that have begun experiencing hearing loss and/or have been for years. One of my dear co-workers, close to my heart, has recently went to have her hearing checked as she noticed that she was unable to hear during some of our training sessions. I ran into this article as I was doing some research and thought this was a great article to share.
There has been a new scientific breakthrough examining how the ear functions that may help in the advancement of a cure for hearing loss. Deafness Research in the UK in collaboration with the Royal Society have made progress about how a particular calcium sensor present in highly specialized sensory cells allows us to hear with such remarkable sensitivity across a wide range of sound intensities.
What does this mean? According to Scientific Breakthrough, they hope that the information gathered could bring us closer to an understanding of mechanisms behind deafness, and improve methods aimed at repairing hearing loss due to damage or genetic defects. Hopefully, in the near future, researches will have a cure to the inevitable hearing loss.
