More and more, it's clear that medical science is discovering just how different breast cancer is in younger patients than in older patients.
Breast cancers in women who are in their 20s and 30s -- especially the hormonally fed cancers -- seem so virulent and aggressive.
My sister's best friend has been fighting breast cancer for 4 years now; she is 36 now, i think. She found a lump just a couple months after a mammogram, and said it seemed to grow "overnight." She has since had a double mastectomy (as did Applegate) and has fought her way into a fourth remission.
