After years of being hard on myself with ridicule about my weight and size, I've decided that Rome wasn't built in a day and neither were my poor habits. I have come to the realization that I must take each day as it comes and make the very best effort possible to get healthier by changing my diet and exercise routines. This mindset has helped me tremendously because all I think about and focus on is today. What am I going to do to become healthier today? If I continue to keep myself accountable for what I put into my body and push myself to become more active each day, pretty soon those days will turn to weeks and months and years. I encourage this frame of mind because it really does help to keep on track to a healthier lifestyle.

Good for you StephStyle! I totally agree with everything you said. A dear friend of mine lost 50 pounds in a year doing exactly what you said above. She said too that she never focused on the entire amount she had to lose as it would overwhelm her. I think you will do great too and I know you will lose the weight. Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us. Big hugs, Michelle

Steph,
Do you hear that noise? It's me, standing up and clapping for you!!!
Your attitude is perfect. It is exactly what you need in order to make a difference, and I know that other women will read it and understand exactly what you're feeling and why your philosophy would help them, too. That daily focus on simply making better choices is everything, isn't it?
And don't let the number on the scale trick you into thinking that you're doing well or poorly. You'll have to know that from within. Some weeks you will lose, others you may not. The scale is cruel that way. But as long as you can look at your day and say, I made good choices today, then you'll be fine.
Way to go, Steph. I like how you think!!

Thanks Diane. I was really inspired by this philosophy when I saw an episode of Secret Lives of Women on the WE channel. The topic was extreme weight loss. One of the gals used to weigh over 300 pounds and lost over 170 pounds within two years through diet and exercise alone. She went on to become a fitness instructor/trainer and went from a size 24 to a size 2 I believe. In one of the interviews they conducted, she said the best advice she could give is not to think of how much weight you have to lose because that will just overwhelm most people. Her philosophy was to just take one day at a time and focus on what you need to do for that day to become a healthier person, instead of a certain size or shape. I thought, wow what an eye opening moment for me because I do tend to become overwhelmed when I think of how much weight I want to lose, with this new mindset I can be successful.

Yes! And the truth is that the only pound we have to focus on is the NEXT pound. Once we get there, we can focus on the pound after that. There's no use focusing on Pound 159 when we are at 203. All it will do is make us feel that the task is impossible. But when we get to 202 and can focus on 201, THAT is movement!! THAT feels possible!
Please keep coming back and updating us, StephStyle. I know you'll have good news!
