With thyroid cancer being the cancer increasing at a more rapid rate than other cancers I feel it is very important to have proper "neck checks" done and thyroid hormone levels done. Because thyroid diseases' symptoms are the same as or similar to other conditions, thyroid conditions may not diagnosed immediately. With thyroid cancer the earlier the detection the better the diagnosis, even a cure.

dear friend-those were my thoughts too,as I worried that anon thought that being a virgin would save her from cancers and other illnesses. I too think that saving yourself for marriage is a wonderful thing, but it does not save you from getting sick. I have been healthy and lived a healthy lifestyle my whole life, until four years ago when I found a lump in my breast. Turns out I had stage 2 breast cancer which returned this august. My point being you have to be cautious even if you live a totally healthy lifestyle and I do agree with you that eye exams are important, too.

Dear Anonymous:

As a very concerned person, I care enough to write to you because I hope I can spare your life.

Being a virgin, not only pleases God, but saves you from many terrible diseases. Like syphilius, gonorrhea, genitile warts, etc..., that can make you miserable, and keep you from marrying the person you love if they believe in virginity, also. So you are making a wise choice.

But, if you walk into a large hospital, such as the well known MD Anderson Cancer Hospital, you will find virgins with breast cancer, cervical cancer, other cancers, other diseases. Cancer doesn't CARE if you are a virgin, or sexual active, or white, black or purple. Cancer, heart disease, and other health problems do not care what you do with your life, except some, may be lessened by nutrition. How many times do we read or see on TV, of young people who have a heart problem and fall down dead. No one knew, and it was from birth. The girl across the street, had open heart surgery, because, unknowingly, at birth, she had a heart problem. At times, her heart would circulate the wrong way, but it didn't happen much, but she felt something "strange". In her 20's, it got so bad when she had "spells", she was dying unless they did immediate open heart surgey. Sex played no role.

I beg you to look up the health issues that unprotected sex can cause, and you will find that these things are not listed. Cancers of some types will be listed, but what this community question on health and the tests involved, are those that haven't boundaries.

I do applaude you for "saving" yourself, of if you are young, I still would encourage you to "wait". That doesn't mean the one you marry is free from sexually transmitted illnesses, but that is for you to decide how to handle.

And, yes, I'm the one who said that the eye exam was important to me, as it showed what nothing else did, and possibly saved me from alot. But, I don't want you to go through life, thinking that "not having sex" will exempt you from realities.

Sincerely,
a friend

Being a virgin and having a pap smear and mammogram have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

My Strong view is that the eye test is all that matters.

The rest are just not important.

I know i don't need a pap smear or mammogram because i'm still a virgin and nobody feels my breasts.

The problem today is we have unclean air, water and dirt. Our food is processed, full of poisons, pollutants and has far less nutritional value than it once did, even if we can afford it, and go organic. Its overwhelming for our bodies. When our bodies find poisons in any/all these areas they stop doing their job of repair and replacement and focus on removing the poisons. It is all this that causes the cancers and diseases we now deal with. If that weren't bad enough, greed runs this country, and most countries because of this, natural remedies are not encouraged and even forbidden. We are reduced to accepting methods for a cure that are often worse than the disease because they make huge sums of money, and yet have no guarantees for the help offered being successful and/or w/o side effects, many permanent. If you think I am wrong research it for yourself.I believe all humans have the right to know the truth [check agenda 21] GOD is my physician because HE says HE is,I trust HIM and anything that affects me must pass through HIS hands first, HE also says mans ideas are foolishness to HIM I use that as a guide when I choose things in my life to rely on. And oh, being a virgin is wonderful, [I applaude you, its the gift that can only be given once and that should be in the confines of a loving marriage, approved by GOD.] but no guarantee against cancer or any other debilitating disease caused by environmental damages man has brought on himself with no end in sight.

The reason I believe that the ONE most important exam everyone should have is an eye exam by an opthomologist. A GOOD ONE!! Mine told me that the "eyes are the window to health". I believe it, as she was able to tell things that had happened (retinal bleeding - that meant I had some issues that the dr.s said I didn't), and she could tell that pre-diabetes was beginning, (which was true). So she was able to tell me how to eat to keep from having diabetes. High blood pressure can be detected, and many disorders - including heart disease - can be detected by a GOOD opthomologist. My eyes were/and are very blurry at times, and she was worried, as one medication causes side effects that was similliar to what she was seeing. My dr. refused to wean me. Finally, other side effects became very bad, and after being hospitalized, he realized it WAS the medication!! I wished I would have believed her enough to wean myself, because, now, I have un-reversalble problems from that medicaton. All tests are good, but the one person I see on a 6 mo basis, is my eye doctor, and I have been very glad soooo many times. She teaches, explains, and helps to prevent. That's a rarity, which is unfortunate.
