Do you mean a laminectomy? This is a procedure usually done for people with spinal stenosis. Is this the condition that this elderly lady has? The procedure is where a surgeon will go in with an incision and remove a little of the bone covering over the spinal cord.
The bone covering is called the lamina, and a surgeon would simply remove part of that and in doing so, remove the pressure from the spinal cord.
We are not qualified to recommend any kind of surgery, even if it's generally very successful, such as a laminectomy. There are many variables involved, especially given the age of the patient.
She will need to discuss both risks and benefits with her surgeon.
