Wintertime Dry Skin: Do you have a favorite product or strategy to prevent it?

I am so tired of my wintertime dry skin!

Do you have a favorite product, or regimen, that you use to prevent dry skin? I have sensitive skin, so try to only use dermatologist-approved, no testing on animals, fragrance-free products. I have tried Aquafor, but it is so greasy!

thanks!

I just started to use PCEM moisturizer by JustB, its' the only thing I have seen which helps dry skin from these cold dry winters.

I use PCEM a moistorizer designed for the desert SW which is rich aloe vera based and has done more for my skin and wrinkles than anything I've found. Check it out, JustB is a provider and the brand! I have used these products since 1982 when they were part of the "With Love B'Anne" collection, now JustB has brought back just the 4 top moistorizers.

I ALWAYS moisturize with any of the bath and body works creams right after the shower. They have one in particular made out of shea butter that is to die for.

I also have to agree with the poster who mentioned that no hot water showers and drinking lots of water keeps you looking hydrated instead of dry.

I know it's not wintertime yet bet if you have dry skin all year, like me, then you are probably looking for a good lotion right now. I use AmLactin and I love it. I found it on this website recently called littleredbumps.com. The site is all about managing dry skin. Anyways, I love the site and the lotion so thought I'd share it with everyone. Hope someone finds this useful!

I also suffer from horrible dry skin in the wintertime. I would actually scratch my legs so bad while I was sleeping that there would be blood all over when I woke up. I actually started tanning last year for the first time, during the winter, in order to relieve seasonal depression. My legs did not itch anymore. I used after sun lotion on my legs that also had aloe vera in it and it worked like a charm. This year, I have continued on the same path and no problems thus far...hope this helps.

I'm a fan of anything with cocoa butter as well. It works for me even on those tough spots. And yup, I'm with Kristin. I pick mine up at Target, which also has a pretty good store brand.

First of all, avoid the use of tap water when cleansing dry skin. The deposits are too drying on the skin. And never, ever use hot water. Use mineral water to freshen your face. Don't use a washcloth-a rough texture can irritate. In the morning, apply a spray of mineral water on your skin misted on with a plant sprayer. Lightly pat dry.

Dry skin needs plenty of thorough but gentle cleansing, regular stimulation with massage and generous quantities of oil and moisture. It also needs extra careful protection. Washing dry skin with soap and water not only removes grime but also the natural oils protecting the skin. A moisturizer increases the water content of the outer layers of the skin and gives it a soft, moist look.

Use nondetergent, neutral-pH products to cleanse your skin. Avoid using any commercial soap.

Follow a bath or a shower with a mild application of baby oil. Massage your face with home-made nourishing cream every night before retiring. Be generous with the cream in the areas surrounding the eyes where tiny lines and crows feet are born.

Here are some natural skin treatments:
Evening primrose oil supplements are beneficial for skin. They contain gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid reputed to strengthen skin cells and boost their moisture content.

Get sufficient sleep as the skin's cellular repair activity is at its optimum during this resting phase.

Exercise benefits skin as it boosts circulation and encourages blood flow. Regular exercise will nourish and cleanse the skin from within.

To nourish and smooth the skin, mash half an avocado and mix with a few drops of fresh lemon juice and spread over the cleansed skin. Leave on for fifteen to twenty minutes, then dab off the excess with a soft tissue. Splash the skin alternately with cold and warm water.

For a quick and easy skin pack, mash a ripe banana with a fork and spread it thickly onto the face and throat. Leave on for ten to fifteen minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water.

Morning Skin Cleanser/Rejuvenator

Every 15 minutes a couple of times before taking your bath

1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon orange juice
1 teaspoon olive oil and
few drops of rose water
few drops of lime juice

Questions for you:

Do you drink enough water?

Is your skin usually dry, regardless the season or weather?

Do you get enough good fats in your diet?

Have you tried lotions like Eucerin or Neutrogena?

I swear by Body and Bath's Body cream line. It's not greasy and it smells so wonderful and truly gets rid of dry skin, especially during the winter.
Body and Bath always runs specials so you can buy 3 tubes for about $25 dollars, but one tube lasts about 2 months if you use it once a day. I love Lemon-Verbena scent.

I love using Shea butter, and I don't have a particular brand that I'm attached to. I'm presently using Lubriderm with Shea & Cocoa Butters lotion and I really like it. It's not greasy and helps my dry hands and feet, especially at this time of the year. And, it's not expensive, which helps! I just buy it at Target and sometimes it's on sale.
