I am a 30 y.o. female with no family history of breast cancer. I found a lump in my right breast a short while ago. Over the next few weeks I had 2 sets of mammograms and an ultrasound done. I called my gyn daily to get the results of the tests, and when they finally came in the FNP returned my call. She stated that it was benign, and when I questioned her further she said it was an enlarged lymph node. Not being a pushy person, and I didn't really have any questions prepared for this scenario I let it go and hung up. Now I can't find any info online for why I would have an enlarged lymph node in my breast. From what I'm finding it must not be a common place, because I have yet to find anything.
So, my question is...Is this something that should be further tested? It is still the same size as when I found it about a month and a half ago. The only other symptom I am having is that occasionally my breast will ache slightly. It's usually only for a few seconds and it quits. It occurs maybe 1-2 times a day.

So as far I understand your lymph nodes in breast can be clearing infection like cold? I had done ultrasound and they said my left breast had two small lymph nodes and nothing to worry about but I need to follow up. I have anxiety about it. Could my sinus infection week ago be responsible for it?

I am about 14 And I think I have have a swollen lymph node in my breast. I have had really bad swollen lymph nodes in my neck before but never in my boob. Is there anyway I can get the lymph node in my boob gone?

Ok around one yr ago i was given a mammagram for very large lums in both breast. Came back as lymphnodes. I have had swollen nodes on going for several yrs. I was made to think it wasnt an issue and have been ignoring the lumps, pain and other breast issues in the area. Now i have discharge in both nipples that i can express, i believe to be lymph fluid. I was not lactating for yrs previous to this starting. Any advice?

My advice is to contact your physician, report the pain, discharge, and whatever other breast issues you are having, and demand a mammogram be scheduled as soon as possible.
If your physician refuses, please get a second opinion.
It is not normal to have persistent enlarged lymph nodes. Lymph nodes become swollen or enlarged when they are fighting an infection.
Benign conditions that cause a nipple discharge include;
Intraductal papillomas (non-cancerous tumours of the milk duct in the breast);
Chronic mastitis (chronic inflammation of the breast);
Fibrocystic changes (non-cancerous tumors of the breast due to hormonal changes);
Mammary duct ectasia (enlargement of milk ducts in the breast);
Fibroadenoma (non-cancerous tumor of the breast);
Ductal hyperplasia (normal thickening of the lining of the milk ducts of the breast); and
Nipple adenoma (non-cancerous tumor of the nipple).

Lymph nodes in the breast are less common then say the nodes in the neck- the cause for the swelling is most likely a low grade viral or bacterial infection that the body hasn't been able to fight off completely. This happens tonne on and off when my body is under stress or a slight illness. I treat myself with natural remedies ad herbs. I take cleaver tincture (moves lymph fluid), dandelion tincture (eliminates toxins in the lymph fluid), and a herb that is antibacterial and antiviral- a few options are yarrow, bee balm, usnea, or elderflower. All great to take in tincture form as well. I buy 4oz bottles of each and take 1tsp of each three times a day for the course of about 2 weeks. Always clears mine up. I have a really sensitive immune system so this happens about twice a year to me. Even spring allergies set mine off.
Another thing to remember is that the lymph system doesn't have it's own pump of flushing mechanism- so movement is key in order to move the lymph fluid in order to prevent it becoming stagnant and causes infection and inflammation.

Clarification regarding the function of the lymphatic system is necessary.
The primary function of the lymphatic system is to transport lymph, a clear, colorless fluid containing white blood cells that helps rid the body of toxins, waste and other unwanted materials.
It is a subset of the circulatory system.
When bacteria are recognized in the lymph fluid, the lymph nodes make more infection-fighting white blood cells, which can cause swelling.
There are two drainage areas that make up the lymphatic system. The right drainage area handles the right arm and chest. The left drainage area clears all of the other areas of the body, including both legs, the lower trunk, the upper left portion of the chest, and the left arm.

MaryAnn ,Thank you for the information. I have CML I was just diagnosed as enlarged limpnode at 12 o'clock .i have been on Gleevec 10 years for Bone Cancer CM L . I noticed my neck swells more than normal like it did with tonsil years ago but
June 18, 2015 - 7:51pmWith the breast I'm really worried about it I also at times past few months sharp pain shoots down ward in both some fluid leak very very slight. But I received a letter in mail said my test were fine then three weeks after I recive another letter stating the enlarge lympnode .do I need to be concerened or is this pretty normal? I'm 56. My go is not the brightest cayron and neither am I thanks for any help

hey Maryam, I am 21 years old. I am 32 b cup. my breasts have always had really big nodes. I don't know if it is because my breasts are naturally small, that's why they appear big or if it is actually abnormal. and on top they are noticeably irregular in size. should I be worried

If you are concerned, schedule an appointment with your physician to a have a breast exam done. If necessary, your physician can order a MRI of the breast.
