Why does my stomach hurt after eating?

stomach ache after eating

In the past few days, my stomach has been hurting (stomach grumbling and a trip to the bathroom) about 20 minutes after eating. I haven't eaten any dairy or gluten few days, and have no history of allergies to either of these.

Any thoughts?

Hi Jenny!

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community! I too, have stomach issues sometimes after eating, but it is usually rare, but when I do, it is an inconvenience to race to the bathroom and to feel cramping and discomfort.

Typically for me it's an isolated event, but I did see the doctor about it years ago. He ran a baseline of tests and found nothing wrong. He prescribed me an anti-diarrheal medication which seemed to remedy the problem. I stopped taking the medicine after a while and just went back to a healthy diet and haven't taken it since.

How often has this happened to you? If it is just one or two times, then it might just be typical indigestion. Spicy or greasy foods can send you straight to the restroom!

I wouldn't be too alarmed, unless it happens frequently. A GI doctor can give you a professional explanation if this is causing you discomfort on a regular basis.

Jenny, did this help?

Best,

Kristin
