6 y ears ago I went on vacation in Jamaica for 7 nights and the first day/night I drank all sorts of mixed drinks and around 10pm i got a bad rash on my face and neck so the second day/night I drank nothing but beer and the same rash appeared but was gone again the next morning and this time never came back. At the time I thought it was maybe caused by taking some generic asprin i wasn't used to. I'm from wisconsin an love the heat and play volleyball all summer with no problems at all.
Skip forward 6yrs and I take a 4 night trip to vegas same as my jamaica trip I came from cold weather into hot weather, the first 3 days/nights no problem but the last night i got a rash on one side of my face and neck also a headache while we were inside watching a show..Once again fine in the am although I was really sick (probably mostly due to drinking) this trip i took excedrin a couple times but i use that a lot playing v-ball with no problems. I didn't eat or drink anything different this last day either so idk. I'm going to Mexico next winter so I want to figure this out. Oh and also I went to vegas last yr with no problems but it was only 70 not 85 out. Usually when it's 90 and all my friends are inside hiding i'm outside sitting in the heat that's why I find it strange the heat would affect me although it seems like maybe it is???

@Maryann. Thank you for sharing your ideas. Actually, I was thinking of the same thing as yours, though I felt unsure about it. Great to find your thoughts here. I did learn from it.

No I have not talked to a physician..I would say it's more like flushing and even without seeing it in the mirror i could feel the temp on my face and neck was high but if I remember right in Jamaica where it was worse my skin was raised or swollen kinda like hives i guess.

Hi,
Thank you for sharing more information. It is possible that the flushing is triggered by the warmer climate and the cocktails. Any local fruits in the drinks and preservatives in the alcohol are just two possible triggers to this reaction.
Hives is an allergic skin reaction that cause raised, red, itchy welts in sizes ranging from small spots to large blotches several inches in diameter.
Allergens trigger a skin or tissue reaction by stimulating certain cells to release histamine and other chemicals into your bloodstream.
Keep a journal while you travel. Log in what you eat and drink, and are exposed to. Note when you have a reaction. You may be able to identify the allergen that is triggering your reaction.

Hello Anonymous,
This is a very interesting and mysterious case. Have you spoken with your primary care physician about this occurrence?
The skin rash appears only when you are in a hot climate and while on vacation.
Typically, does the rash present with red bumps or more like flushing, such as when you are feeling hot? Is there any itching?
It sounds like an allergic reaction to something that has been in contact with your face and neck, or a reaction to the heat.
I wish I could offer you a cause, but I'm stumped. You should consult your primary care physician before going to Mexico.
Regards,
Maryann
