I am not able to have a bowel movement or pass gas without using a med of somekind most of the time, and when i am able, the stools are like little curly cues and are usually hard.I believe i have pockets in my rectum and the stool collects there, because i can shift my position on the seat,or rock and it helps sometimes.

I have a similar problem The stool ( in my case I don't even think its hard
Soft or hard it does not matter much ,,,But it feels like it 's coming out of a small space and cannot negotiate the lack of space at the end of my rectum
It almost feels that my rectun down low fills with blood or expands thus preventing me from expelling the deficate ,,I start to cramp up ,,At first I can take it ,,,as it feel like the shit is going to come out ,but after a while ,( I would say a very long period on the throne ) it starts to get painful The pressure increases and I force myself to get off the pot worried my ass will explode ,,It really diificult taking a shit ,I'm concluding its could be my spincter muscles not acting in coordination ,,but I'm not sure ,,It also feels like my bladder is being pushed against as I try to take a crap sorry for being so graphic,,,,,,but that's the way it is ,,,,,Yeah taking fiber ,,,senna stools softeners ,,laxatives ,,lincess ,,You name it ,,They all create addition problems and don't seem to solve the problem ,, taking a crap always take a while and oftem the results are small and not complete leaving me with a lot of shit left in the rectum ,,I believe just by the spincter or just above the feeling is incomplete defication ,,all the time ,,

Hello, Anon.

Taking digestive aides in order to have or ease bowel movements is often recommended, (which you are doing) but they should be a short term solution unless otherwise directed by your doctor as they can lead to more problems as mentioned in the comment below.

If you have had this issue longer than a month, it's time to see a doctor. You might be correct about the sphincter not working correctly, but there might be something else going on. Best to know for sure.

Keep us updated.

I wanted to mention that some of the prepared and packaged drinks you mentioned, like v8, may have a high sodium content, and can lead to dehydration. Your pharmacist is right that drinking water is not going to "get" to the hard stool, but drinking plenty of water is still important to prevent dehydration; constipation can occur due to lack of water intake.

Another important factor in preventing constipation is regular exercise, so be sure to add physical activity to your daily routine.

Please know that using stool softeners for a long period of time can actually lead to more problems, as they can cause the bowel muscles to relax and not work properly.

If you continue having symptoms of constipation for more than 2 weeks, you may want to call your doctor to be evaluated, in order to rule out any medical condition.
