Why are periods so heavy after having children?

Almost everyone I know has the same issue...why are periods so much worse after having children?

Before I had kids, they were ok. A few cramps, bloating, nothing major. Since having kids, my period lasts longer, is more painful and much, much heavier.

Anyone else experience this and why does this happen?

hi!
Just a shared-experience post here (no health/medical information to offer!)...

I found, after having my one child (I am mid-30's), that my periods are shorter and lighter than before! I've always had a easy periods as far as menstrual flow is concerned. What I've noticed is an increase of other PMS symptoms: moodiness, irritability, fatigue, etc (unless that is more from my lifestyle change of having a toddler...who knows?!)

Hi Celtic Thunder, Good questions and now we have a few questions for you ....Can you tell us your age and the number of children you've had. What type of contraceptive are you using? Have you had tubal ligation? Have you been diagnosed with fibroids and have you had a gyn exam? Thanks.
