I had my left thyroid removed in December, 2008 because of a nodule. It was benign.
All my TSH levels are in normal range. I take 50mcgs. of Synthroid daily.
I suffer from severe depression. I am on 60 mgs of Cymbalta daily.
I am still feeling miserable. I am extremely tired, even more so since the surgery. I sleep 10+ hours daily and I am STILL tired. I have absolutely NO energy to do anything. Just getting dressed is an effort!
I am in need of some answers as to why I am still feeling so tired. My get up and go has "gone up and went."
Please, please help...I don't know what to do. Any information you provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Karen

Hi Everyone,
March 10, 2015 - 7:58pmI am confused on what I should do....I need a little help making my decision. I have a benign nodule on my left thyroid lobe. My food is getting a little hard to swallow and I'm getting a little bit of reflux. It's a little bothersome, I always feel something stuck in my throat and you can see the goiter. I was thinking of getting my thyroid removed but after reading some of your post I got scared of the post-op symptoms. Should I do it or not? Thank you in advance.

Yes you should! Because it can turn into cancer!

I was scared to death to go thru the operation!
It was the easiest operation I've ever had! Don't believe

I had my right lobe removed 3.5 weeks ago and I am still experiencing some lingering symptoms. (Mild anxiety, tremors, palpitations). How long after surgery do these go away? I am not on any meds, first blood tests are next week.

I would have it out. I was having the same symptoms and was also told it was benign. When I came out of recovery they told me it was cancer. Not trying to scare you at all, but anytime we have something growing and causing these problems we should get it out. Prayers for you and your decision.

At this point you have probably already made your decision & either had surgery or not... if by some wild chance you haven't ....during my pregnancy (first trimester) a nodule was felt by my midwife, I was then sent to an Endocrinologist for a biopsy...which came back negative... by the time I delivered my son this benign nodule quadrupled in size. I had no issues breathing, swallowing..but because it grew so rapidly I was sent for a nuclear study which came back normal. I was recommended by the ENT to have it removed. **ALL MY LABS WERE ALWAYS NORMAL** The ENT did a partial Thyroidectomy...the path report came back POSITIVE for Cancer....at that time I had other very small cysts in the remainder of my thyroid gland so they were just monitored... and even after sugery my labs were within normal ranges. Therefore I had no side effect :-) & eventually stopped bejng monitored by mh endocrinologist... 15 years later I had a CT Scan of my abdomen & found out I have Adrenal Masses & with the history of my thyroid cancer my NEW endocrinologist did an ultrasound on my thyroid & had a few large nodules... Well off to the ENT I went without a fine needle biopsy (because they are painful & I don't trust them to be reliable)..All this time my TSH, T3, & T4 remained within normal limits... but after alot of thought & prayer... I had a Total Thyroidectomy... it had been over 5 years & I still don't feel the same... I am exhausted most of the time.... I swell... I am extremely emotional.. and the list of issues go on & on.. I sometimes wonder if I should have gambled dying with cancer vs suffering with all these symptoms........ I am a nurse & would never tell anyone what to do in a situation like this.....however I would suggest thinking about if a partial Thyroidectomy is an option consider it.

I had a total Thyroidectomy six months ago and even after my endocrinologist increased my dosage of Thyroxine I still terribly tired all the time, then I changed my diet and started drinking 24 oz. Of green vegitable smoothie a day, one fruit smoothie a day and started eating lean high protein meals, and made sure I drank lots of water, after only 3 weeks I have an amazing amount of more energy.

I agree 100% with your nutritional approach. Like you , after my total Thyroidectomy I felt like crap all day every day until I started
May 1, 2015 - 3:43pmdrinking green vegetable smoothies, and one fruit smoothie a day,
I cut white carbs completely out of my diet as well, One thing I really learned was to keep my blood sugar up all day and drink 8-10 big glasses of water a day, I don't feel 100% and I don't ever expect to but I feel 100 times better now that I do this. I sincerely and highly recommend al of you that are suffering from this same terrible problem to try this.
