Hi,

My mom recently had a ruptured ovarian cyst where things got really serious to the point that she needed blood transfusions done. She never complained of a smell though. If you do get the symptoms that Maryann stated, dont hesitate to get it checked out.

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to our community with your questions about a ruptured ovarian cyst. Have you been told that you have an ovarian cyst?

A ruptured ovarian cyst is a common phenomenon, with presentation ranging from no symptoms to symptoms mimicking an acute abdomen. When the cyst bursts, blood can enter the peritoneal cavity and cause pain. There is no odor or smell.

Symptoms of a ruptured ovarian cyst include pain, weakness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting , vaginal bleeding, fever, abdominal bloating and pressure.

When blood or excess fluid tinged with blood are released into the abdomen, some of this fluid may leave as vaginal bleeding or bloody discharge. This is often missed as a symptom because ruptured cysts are likely to happen around the time of a woman’s period.

Regards,
Maryann
