This happens just about every morning, but the sensation only lasts for about 10-30 minutes after I wake up, or until I forget about it. I'm 18, 5'9" and weigh ~140 pounds. I've been known to have breathing problems (asthma in the past, I took medication for it, then I began to have new breathing problems, they rediagnosed me as MISdiagnosed, took me off the asthma medication, and now I'm not on anything but my symptoms have decreased). Also, it doesn't seem to be a full bladder problem, as I go to the bathroom just before bed, and don't really have to go when I wake up. I generally sleep on my side, but my sleeping positions really vary (I never sleep on my stomach, though). I just thought it was some form of sleep apnea, because my mom used to say that I would breathe very slowly in my sleep. What do you all think?

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let you all know that I was suffering from this same feeling pretty much every morning! Was really driving me mad. I had a blood test done on my kidneys and liver and it was all OK. I started to realise that I have been tensing lots throughout the day - holding my stomach in and breathing wrong. (i have had super stressful year but thats a whole other subject!) Anyway, long story short, i went to see a physio and explained the feeling and she said its all to do with my breathing. I'm breathing from my chest instead of abdominally and this puts everything out would you believe. When she explained it, it made much more sense. She gave me 6 stretches/exercises to do morning and night to retrain my breathing but also to relax my lower back. This was less than one week ago and i've done my exercises religiously. I know its early days but i must say the pain has lessened in a morning and i'm relieved to find that it's nothing serious. Not sure if this will help any of you but i wanted to share my experience. Maybe visit your doctor first and get the necessary bloods done to rule out anything serious and then see a physio.

Have any of you tried a body pillow? You can also use a king size pillow and put that between your legs when you lay on your side.
When you sleep on your side or in the fetal position (as most common) your back is not aligned straight....the lower back is sinking into the bed and can make your organs very sore if it's not straight by morning.
I have an awesome foam bed, but even I still need to have something between my legs to keep my back straight.

Original poster have you ever figured out what is causing your syptoms I'm a 125 lb 25yo male I was diagnosed with gerd and asthma only by symptoms and developed a whole list of issues after I started taking corticosteroid inhalers etc. and I have noticed the same problem when I wake up it's almost like everything is stiff when I wake up my mid section hurts my ribs are tender I feel short of breath but when I do a peak flow immediately after waking up the numbers are normal, then a while later I don't notice the symptoms anymore. I have been on gerd medication for 6 months and haven't felt any reflux or symptoms of the gerd. I would be. I'd love tto know how they determined you were mis diagnosed by what method. Our symptoms are very much identical

I’m 15 and 5’4 I wake up every morning and I have a pain in my stomach which makes me feel like my organs are being crushed together, but I’m not really sure if that’s what’s happening. Or like someone put a lot of weight on me and just took it off. It lasts for about 10-30 minutes but the pain is awful. It used to do this every now and then like 1 or 2 times a week but for the past week it’s been everyday. I normally just sleep on my side but sometimes on my stomach or my back too. I even make sure nothing is by my stomach to press into it or any chance of causing the pain.

I been having this problem for some years. My problem is that i have a misaligned vertebrate. I assume, when i lay down, it puts pressure to my insides and cause the pain. I know some people have said that is due to posture. Well, i dont think so. I tend to sit up right even while driving. I never drive with my sit tilted towards the back like most people do. I also, have noticed that when i fall asleep sitting in the bed or sofa, i dont feel any discomfort. The things is, while i sleep soundly in that position; it can bring other problems. Like, swelling in feet and spider veins.

I also think it could be inflammation. I have Lupus and when I am in a flare & have inflammation, this is how I feel too. First I thought it was my bed and the way I was sleeping....because I feel it in my abdomen and lower back...

I am 45 200lbs and having the same pain when I wake up. I have COPD, asthma, CKD, fatty liver and about to get a stent in my liver. I have been thinking it has something to do with organ failure but not sure. I would like to know for sure. I have told my Dr but no answer as to what this is.

Hello Anon
If you are female, you may have enlarged/inflamed organs that are causing this feeling.
What has your life been like before all these diagnoses? Were you unhealthy or were these diagnoses due to other reasons?
