Have SARS and bird flu been eradicated?

I remember at one time (a few years ago) when it was all that health news reports talked about!

Are we still at risk?

Hey, yeah! Whatever happened to SARS and bird flu? While it looks like it hasn't been eradicated, it looks like the number of cases has gone down at least for the past two years based on a June 2008 health report by the World Health Organization.

But the Centers for Disease Control said while the spread of H5N1 virus from person-to-person has been very rare, limited and unsustained this epizootic continues to pose an important public health threat."

Maybe it's fallen off the media radar with the election? Just a guess.
