Is there a something that can be added to the washing machine soap and such to prevent scarbies from spreading. I had nver heard of scarbies until now. I moved into an assisted living place and, boom, in 4th month, the itching started on my back. What can they put into the washing machine, along with the detergent that will kill these critters? HELP!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, Anon.

Thank you for your post.

Scabies is a contagious, intensely itchy skin condition caused by a tiny, burrowing mite.
It can be treated by killing the mites and their eggs with medication that's applied from the neck down and left on for eight hours. The mites can also be killed using oral medications.

Machine washing with *hot* water can kill mites like scabies.
Dry cleaning can help decontaminate clothes and kills mites like scabies.
