We all have an appendix, but what is the purpose of it? Why do we have an appendix if it can be removed?

Hi John,
Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community! I had my appendix taken out in the mid 90's and I haven't missed it since! lol
It has been said that the appendix is designed to protect good bacteria in the gut, but there is no real hard evidence to claim that it truly has a purpose.
