That is after testing at the doctors office. What is normal when you eat lunch and test your glucose with a meter 1 hour and 2 hours after lunch or dinner or brakefast?

Dear Anon,
Thank you for your question. What you are referring to is called the Glucose Tolerance Test or GTT. The test is normally performed at or around 28 weeks gestation where you are given 50mg of an oral glucose substance and then your serum glucose level is tested. The normal lab reading for this test is 140mg/dl or less. Some doctors, however, will consider re-testing you for the 3 hour GTT test if your reading is over 130mg/dl. In that case, you will be tested for your fasting glucose, given a 100mg glucose drink and tested after 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours (for a total of 4 blood tubes)
Normal lab values for that second test are as follows:
* Fasting: less than 95 mg/dL
* 1 hour: less than 180 mg/dL
* 2 hour: less than 155 mg/dL
* 3 hour: less than 140 mg/dL

I hope this answers your question. Did you have to have the second test done? Or just the first?
Good Luck!
