Daisy thank you for the reply ! Well my Dad was diagnosed when he was 79 and now he is 83. What factors play when considering lung transplant , age?

Hi reckell2013,
It would be best to speak to a specialist (Pulmonologist) and he can better advise, as to which treatment would be best for your dad.
Best of luck and keep of posted

Hi reckell2013,
Welcome to EmpowHER. The treatment options for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis are very limited. There is no evidence that any medications can help this condition, since scarring is permanent once it has developed. Lung transplantation is the only therapeutic option available. Since some types of lung fibrosis can respond to corticosteroids and/or other medications that suppress the body's immune system, these types of drugs are sometimes prescribed in an attempt to decrease the processes that lead to fibrosis. The life span depends on the severity of symptoms and progression and on how well is your body responding to treatments.
Best,
Daisy
