Diverticulitis is an inflammation or infection in one or more small pouches in the digestive tract.

If you are generally in good health and the inflammation or infection you are experiencing is not severe, your doctor will likely proceed with these non-surgical, at-home treatments:
Over-the-counter (OTC) pain relievers Tylenol, Aleve, Advil, and Motrin, as your doctor deems appropriate.
A clear liquid diet for a few days
Commonly used, broad-spectrum antibiotics include:
Metronidazole (Flagyl)
Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim (Bactrim, Septra)
Ciprofloxacin (Cipro)
Amoxicillin
Clavulanate (Augmentin)
Helena
