Can a woman tell the difference between a urinary tract infection (UTI) and a yeast infection? At what point should a doctor's visit be

Ali,

Thanks for your Ask. UTI is a bacteria from the large intestine such as E.Coli, it can leave the anus and invade the urethra. From there it can travel up to the bladder, if not treated it can keep going up to the kidneys. Some of the symptoms are burning when you urinate, a frequent and intense urge to urinate, pain or pressure in the back and lower abdomen, and strange smelling urine. Yeast infection is totally different, it's a fungus that lives in the vagina in small numbers. An infection means too many yeast cells are growing. Symptoms to look out for are itching, pain, burning, a clumpy white discharge such as cottage cheese. Either one of this conditions should be treated immediately to avoid further complications.
