Hello Anon

Thank you for writing!

I understand your wish to not become dependent on narcotic pain relievers long-term. They truly help people in pain but can be habit-forming and have some concerning side effects.

A pain management team can help you wean from these medications and take a lighter form of pain relief instead. Physical therapy can also work wonders, as can talk-therapy, exercise, meditation and massage. You have not said what kind of pain you are in or what the cause was so it's difficult to further help you - please give us more details - we look forward to hearing back from you.
Best,
Susan
