Swollen Gums covering back of molar tooth?

So I wear invisalign and this morning when I took my trays off my gums were abnormally swollen. There was a little blood and normally my gums are swollen after I sleep with my trays in for the night but today they were more so than usual. On my lower teeth the gums behind my right molar tooth were swelled a lot. I gently touched and tried massaging the area but it feels like there's a hard bump. I haven't put in my lower trays yet for the fear that it may exacerbate the symptoms. What should I do? How long will this last? My orthodontist is in another state...

I'm not exactly sure the cause (normally my gums don't stay swollen for more than 10-15 min but it's been a whole day and it's a bit painful). I examined my bottom trays and it appears that the back of the tray may have cut into my gums and part of it actually came off during sleep. I'm not entirely positive but that's what it looks like.

Hello and thank you for sharing your question.

There could be two possible causes. 1. Your invisalign may be causing the swelling (even though more than usual). It may not sit correctly in your mouth, or simply be shifting your teeth. 2. You may be experiencing some gum related issues such as an infection.

Unfortunately we cannot provide a specific answer because a doctor will need to look at it in person to assess the true problem. If you cannot, or do not wish to see a doctor I would suggest following the old fashion remedies. Brush 3 times a day, floss at least once a day (more if possible).
