Ever since I first got my period at 14, I have sometimes have problems with tampons seeming to get 'caught' in my vagina. I have figured out that there's a cord-like piece of flesh that stretches across my vagina that the tampon gets stuck on. I am not a virgin, and my hymen definitely broke the first time I had intercourse (there was a lot of blood) but I still occasionally have this problem. It's extremely painful and I have no idea what the 'cord' is or how to get rid of it.

Can you tell us how old you are? I am confused by your question, as it sounds like this was a one-time occurrence. If this did happen once, you may have been sore from intercourse (this may be normal, or could indicate a problem...we can discuss the details more in-depth).
Tampons should not hurt, for any length of time.
Am I correct in reading your question that in one day, you had sex, started your period, inserted a tampon and experienced pain. If not, how long has your pain been occurring when using a tampon?

Hi,
June 22, 2011 - 5:43pmI hope that by now, you have told your mother about this problem. As a mother of 3 children, one daughter, I know a mother will do anything for her child. Though it might seem embarrassing, she is your mom. Please don't wait any longer, your health is at risk. If you must go to the emergency room, don't fret because the doctors and nurses are there to help and deal with all sorts of problems everyday.

HI, I'm concerned for you, as a MOM. From what you said about how well you communicate with your mom, it seems like she'd be understanding and helpful. Anyway, you need to tell someone and have this taken right away, sweet heart.

Thank you for your help, I still haven't talked to my mom about it, but I keep trying to get it out, and it yet still wont come. I plan on asking my sister-in-law, she understands me better. But, how would I ask her?

Anon,
You still have the same tampon from two days ago inside? At this point you need to call your sister in law and say "I have had a tampon inside me for days and am unable to remove it, can you take me to the Emergency Room now without making a scandal out of this? I'm nervous/scared enough as it is"
I can't stress enough how Imperative it is that you get that removed ASAP. You are now in serious danger of TSS.

l'm 13, and I am having this same problem right now. There's like an extra part of skin or something on the edge of my tampon, only on one side though. I can't pull it out, cause the pain hurts to bad. I can't push the 'thing' off of it, cause it won't come off. I don't know what to do, cause I don't want to ask my mom about this. I tell her everything in the world, but I don't want to have to ask her to help me get out my tampon.

I had that problem yesterday morning, my best friend came over and she couldn't get it out, either. We went to the doctor and I knew the doctor was going to rip out my tampon... she told me she was going to look, but she grabbed my tampon string and riooed it out... ripping that chord.

Hi Anon,
Where you able to solve your problem? If not, it is important that you tell your mom and have her take you to the hospital if you seriously can't get it out. I know that at 13 this is the least desirable thing to do but hopefully your mom will be able to help you without hurting you. If not, unfortunately, the hospital is the safest place to go but you cannot just let it stay in. After hours of wearing a tampon you increase your chances for Toxic Shock Syndrome which is a rare but potentially fatal disease that involves fever, shock, and problems with the function of several body organs.
Please keep us updated,
Rosa
