Severe PMDD and Testosterone question

Hello, I am 44 years old and I suffer from severe PMDD (fatigue, anxiety and depression to the point of being nearly suicidal) for a minimum of two weeks before my period. As soon as I start my periods (which are regular and moderate) I feel 100% better and have energy and happiness. I have my period now and am fine, last week I literally could not function. New Gyn prescribed 10 mg Serafem which I have been taking for only one week. My libido is low and my energy level could be higher even during my "good" 10 or so days of the month and I am wondering if testosterone may help me. Also, I'm having a hard time finding an MD who addresses Gyn and Hormone issues (it's either OB/Gyn or Endocrinologist). Can you please give me any advice? Thanks so much.

Hi Rosa thanks for your reply. I live in Brooklyn, NY and while I know that there are so many doctors in New York City, I really am having a hard time finding one who specializes in PMDD! Any assistance you can give me would be very greatly appreciated! I am particularly interested in hormones but it seems that the only info I can find about them are for menopause -- because I am pre-menopause I don't even know what my options are. Thanks again!

Hi SusanaG,

I'm sorry your libido is low on Sarafem. It is one of the side effects of the medication and you may want to ask your doctor about the testosterone helping you with increasing your libido since certain medications cannot be combined.

Have you tried looking for a doctor who perhaps doesn't specialize in endocrinology but in PMDD itself?

Let me know where you are located and I will try to find one in your area.

Rosa
