Restarting Estrogen therapy 20 years post hysterectomy

I am currently 52 years old and had a hysterectomy at 32, for various problems. They removed my ovaries also because of the severe pain I was having with ovulation (couldn't stand upright, severe cramping for 2 weeks/mth, passing out with pain when period would start). Was on estradiol therapy for 8 years and gradually was weaned off because my mother had breast cancer/increased risk, etc. Needless to say have had a miserable 12 years post estrogen. Sex life had become so stressful I didn't want my husband to touch me, because of the pain of intercourse, causing bleeding, cramping. My PCP had nothing to offer to help. Recently looking into the possibility of restarting HRT, after PAP results showed such severe ATROPHY, and was hoping someone might have some insights and information to share. I have not had a OB/GYN in 12 years BC of my hysterectomy and my PCP could do pap tests, etc., and am going to find a new doctor to ask questions to. Just hoping some ladies might have some help to offer.

Thanks Faith. I plan on finding a good GYN here starting next week. I started looking into the pellet therapy, but find them very expensive. I know they are bio-identical but don't have $1400+ a year for the treatment and my insurance doesn't cover but about $80.00. SO, I'm looking into alternatives. I've printed out the articles and plan to peruse the site looking for more information posted here over the years by other women. I'm just not satisfied to think that this is my life and basically the end of my sex life at age 50. Thanks again for your comment. I have much reading and research to do. Betty
