Q:

Protein shakes...how can I tell which ones are good and which ones are bad? I have heard a lot of hype about GMO's in protein powder. What would you suggest?

Hi Kristin,

Thanks for your question. Are you athletic? Do you have specific fitness goals? Most people do not need protein supplements. For example, the average woman needs 46 grams of protein per day, not the 80 grams or more provided in a protein shake. Those who are athletic, pregnant, or breastfeeding need more protein. However, too much protein can damage your kidney and liver.

Your weight, health status and lifestyle will determine your protein needs. You may already be getting a sufficient amount from your current diet. A certified nutrition specialist can help you calculate your recommended daily protein intake and suggest dietary options that will help you reach your goals. If you decide to try protein shakes, there are non-GMO verified options available.

Did that answer your question? Please let us know how it works out for you!

Best Wishes,

Shanon
