Q:

Is Pregnancy Possible?

I was recently out of the country in June. While I was away, I started my cycle (around the 21st). I’ve been taking birth control for 4 1/2 years and I was off of it for one week because I forgot to take a new pack with me. My boyfriend and I ended up having unprotected sex when I was back on the pill for 3 days. We didn’t use a backup method. Concerned, I took a Plan B a few hours later and continued my birth control as I usually would. Should I be worried I may become pregnant? Or is it not likely due to the amount of time I’ve been on birth control (minus the one week I was off of it) and the Plan B. I’m a natural worrier and would just like some thoughts on if this seems like a conducive situation where pregnancy could occur.

Hello, Anon! Thank you for writing today!

There is some risk when you miss your pills for that long. A pregnancy test would be accurate 14-21 days after sex. Taking a test will ease your mind.

Make sure you read the information that comes with emergency contraception so you know what to expect.
