Please Reply Health Educator: Will I get pregnant if I caressed and touched my partner's penis with my hands if my hands made direct contact with the skin of his penis?

I started my period on 06/12/2011. Today I am in the 4th day of my menstrual cycle (06/16/2011). However, on 06/13/2011, both of my hands directly touched the penis of my partner, so that there was hand-penis direct contant since his underpants were removed. My genital area was clothed at all time and there was never any penis-vagina contact.

However, after approximately 10 minutes of gently caressing and touching his penis I stopped and went directly to use the restroom to urinate. Thus, I urinated and grabbed toilet paper to wipe myself, but now I have concerns whether I should have washed my hands before grabbing the toilet paper and wiping myself. I did not wash my hands before grabbing toilet paper and wiping myself. Should this be a concern pertinent to pregnancy? I have an entire month to wait?

He never ejaculated, but now I am concern for risks of pregnancy from this situation. Were my hands really necessary to be wash to avoid pregnancy since they grabbed toilet paper to wipe the vaginal area or am I safe and do not have to worry at all about this situation? Is this a safe sexual behavior to perform (caressing, touching if no semen is present)?

If I do the exact activity described above in the future again do I really need to remember to wash hands before using the restroom to avoid pregnancy or is this not necessary? I know that it takes an ejaculation on or near the vagina or at least direct penis-vagina skin to skin contact for for there to be any viable risk of pregnancy. However, I do not know the reason why a pregnancy concern has come to my mind from the situation described above. I have read so much information about pregnancy occurring from toilet seats, towels, soaps with semen or residual semen that I no longer know what is safe or unsafe specifically to pregnancy.

Am I safe from a pregnancy occurrence and should I be free of worry from my situation described here? Should I be thinking to take Plan B, is it necessary in my situation? Thank you very much for your most sincere and knowledgeable, fact information.

Hi Anon,

Thank you for your question. You don't have anything to worry about-- hand contact with the penis will not get you pregnant. In order for this to happen there must be intercourse or ejaculation on or near your vagina.

Best Wishes,

Rosa

To my understanding there does need to be semen for there to be any risk of pregnancy.. I really do not think you have anything to worry about.
