Q:

Period isn't over yet

I've had my period for going on a week and it hasn't stopped yet. I've tried taking my birth control to get it to stop but it's not working like it usually does when I want my period to stop. I was worried that I might of been pregnant before it started but I took a pregnancy test and it said I wasn't so I don't think it's a miscarriage. Should I see my doctor or just not worry?

Hi Anon,

Thank you for your question-- Most periods will last anywhere between 3-7 days. Some months you may have a lighter or heavier period depending on your previous one. If skip a period, your next one may be longer or heavier. The same goes sometimes when your last period is very short-- this is normal. It does not indicate that you are pregnant or that you are having a miscarriage-- just let your period end on it's own. If it continues on for another week and it is still heavy, then you should see your doctor.

All the best,

Rosa
