Is pericarditis contagious?

Hello
My husband was diagnosed with pericarditis and myocardtis two weeks ago caused by a probable virus, my son has now been diagnosed with pericarditis I was told that that it was not contagious I am unsure of what questions to ask the Doctors.
Please help I am so worried
PS; my husband age is 48 my Son is 20 both very fit

Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for your question. The answer to not a simple yes or no but rather - possibly. Pericarditis is often a complication of some other issue such as a viral infection, bacterial etc. So in this case, the infection could be contagious although not necessarily the outcome which would be the heart issue. The best thing would be to go to your doctor and explain the situation. Pericarditis is secondary to many many things.
