They found a malignant melanoma tumor about the size of a quarter in the vaginal opening. I will be helping her after her hospital release and want to know what to expect for her recovery needs and time. Will she be able to walk right away? Is there a wound and bandage that needs changing? I just want to be able to provide any type of care necessary but don't know how to prepare for it. Will she need a walker? Is there a resource I can find that will give me suggestions or tips on any care for her? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER.  Treatment options for vulvar cancer depend on the type and stage of your cancer, the overall health and your preferences. She may find it helpful to talk to other people with vulvar cancer. They can tell her how they've coped with problems similar to the ones she's facing. Since you will be caring for her after surgery, It's important to discuss with her doctor or nurse, on what to expect after surgery and what you can do to help.

Best,

Daisy
