Pain and swelling in the left ankle

Hi, Anon.

Thank you for posting. There can be many causes for your pain and swelling. A common cause might be an injury to the foot or ankle. For example, a sprained ankle, which occurs when an injury or misstep causes the ligaments that hold the ankle in place to be stretched beyond their normal range. To reduce the swelling from a foot or ankle injury, rest to avoid walking on the injured ankle or foot, use ice packs, wrap the foot or ankle with a compression bandage, and elevate the foot on a stool or pillow. If swelling and pain is severe or doesn't improve with home treatment, see your doctor.

I haven't injured my ankle. It only hurts in the morning when I first wake up. Once I start walking the pain eases after walking a couple minutes.

Hello.

Even if the pain eases after you walk a bit, if it's something new and ongoing, it might be a good idea to have your doctor take look at your ankle.
