If you haven't heard by now, Oprah Winfrey came under fire this week from Newsweek magazine for her guests and how their discussions of women's health.

Celebrities, such as Suzanne Somers have appeared on the show chatting up their ailments and treatment options which include daily injections, up to 60 vitamins a day and even patch-wearing.

Some say Oprah is presenting all available information to the public which has the final decision. Others say mainstream presentation of unproven treatments can be risky. What do you think?

Great question! Who is complaining? If Oprah is wrong about educating the public on what is available out there, then EmpowHer has not business to be here either. There are many treatment modalities that are considered "non-conventional" and will probably be expensive for many to afford. But there are others like: Good Nutrition, Meditation, Yoga, Breathing, etc that are "free" and everyone can use them in the healing process. Most celebrities have their own way of promoting "anti-aging" options to health that are not necessarily natural approaches to achieve wellness. The public, however, should also be educated about them and make their own decision, provided they consult with their doctors prior to starting any self-treatment.

There is something we keep forgetting as a society, we are a free country and as such we should exercise health freedoms. But a smart audience will know the differenciate the charlatans from those who legitimately present therapies that are backed by efficacy and effectiveness. Most drugs approved by the FDA are not curing illness, they are only band-aid solution that result in many other negative side effects. There is no media outlet out there that will make any money promoting natural approaches to health, but pharmaceutical companies can afford multi-million marketing and advertising campaigns to brain wash us about using these drugs. To have a balanced system of choice, I do not mind Oprah bringing guests to share more natural approaches to wellness. This is what true HEALTH FREEDOM is about!
