I had unprotected sex with withdrawal 4 times in a night. I was on CD9 at night and cd10 in the morning. My cycle is usually 25 days. I took plan b 2hrs after the last round. On night of CD 11 I had side cramping like I usually do during ovulation. Today is cd 14, I have not had any side effect at all. I had white thick discharge last night and that was all. Can I be pregnant? What are my chances?

Emergency contraceptives are up to 95% effective when taken as prescribed within the first 24 hours and up to 90% effective if taken within 72 hours, so the risk is very small. It works by preventing ovulation and stopping a pregnancy from starting. It is not an abortion pill. It prevents a pregnancy, it does not end one. Side effects can include stomach aches, headaches, dizziness, breast pain, nausea and a general feeling of being unwell. Some women can bleed a little or quite extensively after taking emergency contraception. Some women experience few to no side-effects. Side effects, of lack of, are not an indication one way or another whether the medication will work.

Side effects usually start 2-7 days after taking the medication and may or may not include bleeding or spotting. Not all women get symptoms. Some get many, or a few, or none. If a woman doesn’t get her next period within a week of it’s expected date, a pregnancy test may be necessary although the risk is very low. Periods can often be delayed or longer/shorter as a result of taking emergency contraception. We cannot predict this for our readers in terms of length of delays. Each woman is different. Periods should get back to normal by the second cycle after.

Hello again - when emergency contraception is taken, the risk is less than 5%. If the withdrawal method was successful, there is no risk at all.

There is no more information we can give on this topic. Take a pregnancy test. If negative, then you are not pregnant and will need to wait for your period. Stress can cause the cycle to be more irregular so try to remain calm.

So.. just an update. On cd 18 and 19, around a week after ovulation I started light brownish pink spotting but only noticed when I wiped. It only happened for these two days and stopped. Also my vagina was extremely dry and the walls felt tighter. I guess all this was a side effect of the ec and anxiety. On CD22 I started dark brown spotting and it was noticeable on panty liner. Then last night, cd23 it started intensifying and I started noticing dark red blood. My boobs stopped feeling sore yesterday. And this morning I am having stronger menstrual cramps than usual but everything else normal. My period wasn't due until two days. Is this my period?
