Nearly constant urinary tract infections?

I used to get UTI's all throughout the year, on and off; sometimes it would get to the point where the UTI was so bad that I had to get hospitilized. The doctors gave me antibiotics to get rid of it, but the condition always comes back. So what I have learned to do is; I've modified my diet and how I dress; if I have any more than a candy bar, or a soda, I get a UTI. I have to make sure that I eat balanced meals, I am in dental school so I am stressed all the time, and I need to make sure that I eat healthy. Also, if I wear tight undies, like thongs, or just anything tight, I get uti's. If I deviate from any of that, I get UTI's from just eating a candy bar. I just now got one because I havent been doing any of that, and so tadah uti hell for me. :) But it had actually been more than a year since I had gotten one, and so that was nice. :) Next week I have an appointment to see the dr. Well see what he says about it all. :) But again, those things do prevent me from getting uti's. good luck with yours.

Sometimes having oral sex during or before you have actual intercourse can cause severe UTIs. With my partner we would have oral sex before having vaginal intercourse and it caused me to have UTIs because of the bacteria in the mouth. If you use oral sex as foreplay or occasionally participate in, try eliminating this part and see if this helps. good luck!

yeah.......i thnk i have that too. but im only 15.
ive had 4 of them in the last 2 months.
im so damn pissed off and im not up to go to the dr every damn week. i have school worrk, and sports i need to keep up with. and im sory if i dont have to time to take a exruciating piss every 5 seconds.

all i can say is try to drink alota cranberry juice and water.
i hope its just a stage.

Anon1 and Anon 2 - Ok, you're both essentially asking if taking antibiotics will have an effect on oral contraceptives. Good question.

Here's what the Mayo Clinic says:

The effects of antibiotics on birth control pills may be overstated — except in the case of one antibiotic, rifampin. Studies clearly show that rifampin decreases the effectiveness of birth control pills in preventing ovulation. However, rifampin isn't used widely. Chances are you wouldn't be taking it unless you had tuberculosis or had tested positive for the disease.

Hypothetically speaking, other antibiotics, particularly penicillin and tetracycline derivatives, could impair the effectiveness of birth control pills in a small percentage of women. Researchers can't rule out this possibility, but no large studies have proved such an effect.

If you're taking a newer, extremely low-dose oral contraceptive, you could be more susceptible to this potential antibiotic effect. If you're concerned, consider using a barrier method of contraception for the duration of your antibiotic prescription.

Other resources offer varying opinions. Some are adamant that a second measure must be taken, while others say there's no risk at all. An article published in the Journal of Gynecologic Surgery stated that women who experience breakthrough bleeding while taking both birth control pills and antibiotics could be at higher risk of contraceptive failure and that women who take low-dose birth control pills may also be at higher risk than women taking birth control pills with higher levels of synthetic estrogen and progestin.

It's believed that antibiotics may interfere with birth control pills by changing the way the liver metabolizes the synthetic estrogen in birth control pills. The bottom line seems to be that the data isn't really clear, and since oral contraceptives aren't a 100% guarantee to begin with, there may be a risk involved in combining them with antibiotics.

I'm not currently taking any antibiotics, but I saw that some women have been prescribed them for this problem. I was just wondering is there any antibiotic that won't cancel out birth control. I know there are several that I have taken in the past for other problems and the doctor told me that the birth control would not be affective while on the antibiotic.

I also am dealing with this same issue. I am prone to get a uti after sex, but I also get them while I haven't had sex. I have tried to cranberry pills as well, but nothing seems to do the trick. I was wondering does this antibiotic interfere with birth control? I know other antibiotics that I have been on cancel out BC.

Iam 22 years old. Ive been with my fiancee for almost 4 years.I have had uti for about 3 of those years. Currently this year, I have had it atleast 4 of the days of each week. We stopped having sex for a while to see if this is the cause, and i still have them.They are extremely painful and so far i have been on azo and pain pills every single day. Havent slept for months, im almost becoming depressed. I have no health insurance at the time and i cant afford the treatment. Is there any home remedies that can help me?

wow- i didnt realize this happened to so many women apart from me- it is a horrible experience and i wish there was more info available on the web... I have been in a longterm relationship for about 4.5 yrs now and at the beginning when we had just started having sex (i was 20) i began getting UTI's almost once a month!!!! it was horrible- so i listened to the dr and would pee after intercourse and be extremely clean and try to lubricate more during sex and drink cranberry juice and take natural "UR-KID" suppliments but just when i thought the infections had stop they started again and this happened again and again! even though i was still doing the same things!- this time i had been fine for about 5 months and i just got one again... it is driving me crazy! Maybe i should start taking Macrobid after every time i have intercourse- but i hate taking medicine! i dont know what to do and hate this situation... has anyone successfully stoped getting repeated UTI's without medication?
