Q:

Nearly constant urinary tract infections?

I suffer from a nearly constant UTI (Urinary tract infection). My doctor has told me that it is probably because I have a lot of sex (with one partner) and sex changes the pH of the vagina. She gave me a bunch of things do that would hopefully stop the UTI from coming back, such as urinating right after sex and making sure everything is well lubricated. I've also taken medications, but it only seems to solve the problem for a few days.

However, IT DOES NOT GO AWAY.

Does this happen to anybody else? And if it has, how did you get rid of it? Or am I doomed to have to urinate ever five seconds for the rest of my life?

I have had a constant UTI for over a year now. Mine are not related to sex at all. The antibiotics are making me feel ill. The Urologist did a cystoscopy & said "I don't know what is causing them". A naturopath tested me for food sensitivies which showed a high sensitivity to yeast, wheat, dairy & cocoa so I have eliminated all of these from my diet - cruel! She diagnosed Leaky Gut Syndrome & Gut Dysbiosis as well as Candida so I also cut sugar altogether. I am taking probiotcs & immune enhancing supplements. Still no change. It is incredibly frustrating & quite depressing at times. AS well as costing me a small fortune. Its leaves me feeling so helpless.
Thanks for everyone elses accoutns here - it helps to read them.

Hello, Am 45 now and have also suffered most of my life w constant urinary tract infections, one after another. The only thing that worked for me and continues to work is a quality super strength cranberry supplement that I take once a day, every day. I have been doing this for 2 yrs. now and have not had one infection, thankfully. I do recommend, with any supplement, to go to a health food store rather that a local pharmacy, and buy a quality product, there is a difference. I do also take probiotics which probably help also. Good luck.

I've had kidney problems all my life and know all the do's and don'ts of how to prevent infections. For the last year and a half I've had UTI's almost every month (always after intercourse) and have been married almost 9 years. I tried every preventative home remedy - Super Strength Cranberry tablets, D-Mannose, Chinese Herbs, Ural Sachets and drinking loads and loads of water till it made me sick. 9 times out of 10 these did nothing to help prevent or clear up my infections and I'd end up having to take Antibiotics (which I hate) to get rid of the UTI. I was starting to get depressed and dreaded having sex with my husband because I knew the end result would be another infection.

A couple of months ago a friend of mine (who knew I had this problem) sent me an email about Asparagus and the health benefits of this amazing plant. I thought I'd give it a go especially since I'd tried everything else on the market and to my amazement I haven't had a UTI since. I eat around 5 to 6 sprigs (canned asparagus) in the morning and the same at night. I'm also getting the added health benefits which is a bonus! I am not affiliated in anyway with any Asparagus companies or know anyone that is, but wanted to post this because its helped me get back to a normal life and it may help others who are constantly suffering from these annoying infections...

I had UTI's all the time and was told by my Dr. that it was caused from sex. I did everything that I was told and nothing helped...until I came across a website that gave home remedies. When you feel the urgency or the first effects you may have, drink an 8oz glass of water with one table spoon of baking soda. I have followed this method of "self" medicating for more than a year and haven't sufford with a UTI since.
Hope this helps....

Dear Susan,

They havn't said anything about that. I just went to see them yesterday and they said I have Staph in my urinary tract and bladder. I feel extremely awful and I have fevers. They said they have nothing they can give me. They suggested I see an infectious disease specialist. But I am getting worst, and don't know what to do. I can't even walk due to the pain. I am getting extremely frustrated and I can't do anything. It hurts pretty bad. I get chills, and my fevers stay around 99.7. I don't know if I should go to the E.R or just wait it out. They said they can't give me anything antibiotics.

Thanks Susan,

Syanne

I've written here before, and I've been having UTI issues since I was 15. I'm now 19 and the infections will not go away. the doctors finally told me today they have no idea what else to do and that my body is resisting the antibiotics (Which comes to no surprise to me because ive been on every single one for the last couple years). I'm 19 years old, 5'5'' and 87 lbs (used to be anorexic, in process of gaining weight). I have a cystoscopy next week, but they said if my infection hasn't gotten better by next week that they will have to hospitalize me for a week or more. I have kidney damage from constant UTI's. Now they're wanting to hospitalize me. My question is why? Why do I need to be hospitalized and what would they do during my hospitalization?
Thanks!

Have you gone to another doctor who specializes in women's urology for a second opinion? If your back is hurting, your kidneys could be affected by a chronic UTI.

Let us know if you need help finding a specialist in your area. If you have already been to a specialist, and also received a second opinion, what did the doctor(s) tell you regarding your kidney's health?

And by the way, stay away from drinks with Yellow 5 in them. It contributes. And caffeinated drinks constantly will also contribute to a UTI.

I have read all the posts. I was also a member of the constant UTI club. One thing you should do is urinate before intercourse and after intercourse. Drink a lot of water and take the over the counter cranberry vitamins everyday. DO NOT hold it at all. This all will help to keep the urinary tract cleansed. Also drink antioxidant drinks. It will also help you. I still have them but only once in a while. Make sure that you shower with soap that will not irritate the vaginal area and DO NOT use scented douche. Use vinegar and water, this helps to kill bacteria.
