I take cyestra 35 for acne and as a form of birth control. I am 21 years old and I have never had unprotected sex with my bf of 4 years, and I started cyestra about 5 years ago. My question is, before my last period was over I had made sure to call and get another three months worth of my bc pills. I was told it would take a day to get. However going in the next day the pharmacy said it would take two weeks to get my medication. They didn't tell my why it would take so long. Though I make sure to always use condoms I wasn't comfortable having sex without my pill. A week goes by and I have what looks like a period for 5 days, starts Sunday night and stops on Friday. Then Saturday to Thursday I am fine. However I just got a call today that my pills are in. So immediately I go and get then and take a pill at 1 pm like I always do. I get home and now I'm bleeding. Is this two withdrawal bleeding in two weeks? Should I wait to start my pack? I am unsure and the pharmacy isn't really reliable as I've found out.

Thank you for your question and welcome to EmpowHer! It is likely that you are experiencing breakthrough bleeding, which is a normal side effect of oral contraceptives. Breakthrough bleeding is lighter than your normal menstrual cycle. If the bleeding is heavy, or lasts a long time, you should consult your doctor.
Cyestra 35 instructions for usage specify that you should continue taking the medication through spotting or breakthrough bleeding, even if you have missed a dose. The only time it specifies to discontinue use is if you miss a period (which can indicate a possible pregnancy).
If you are unsure of how to resume using the pill, your medication should always include an insert with instructions. Otherwise, your doctor or their nursing staff can give you clear instructions.
