menopause or health problem??

Hello, I am 45 yrs. My last cycle was in April, it is now July, nothing since then, just stopped. Previous to that my cycle was coming every 20 days for months, with heavy bleeding and clotting and bad cramps, which was unusual for me as it was usually lighter with no cramps. I have, over the past few yrs. undergone DNC's and removal of fibroids and polyps. I have been waking at night, numerous times, completely soaked from sweat and having to change my night clothes and sometimes the sheets as well, for the past couple yrs. Originally, I just though it was just menopause and was happy to be rid of it, but it occurred to me recently that perhaps there may be another reason for my cycle's absence that may indicate some type of problem. What is your opinion. I was not going to go to my Gynecologist, thinking it was just a normal part of aging and there was no need to go to the doc, but am now thinking perhaps I should. May I ask, are there other conditions which could cause my cycle to just stop. I do have a history of ovarian cysts, one large one that was removed decades back. I would greatly appreciate your feedback. Thank you, Chippi

Sherry..that would certainly explain my rise in B/P last year..I also have a headache when it's up...an occasional nose bleed if it's too high...hope all goes well for you with this..Blessings, chippi

I believe the menopause a big factor in my case. Two days after taking HRT my blood pressure was back down to normal. I always know when my blood pressure is up cause I get a dull headache.

Hello Sherry67, Sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time w all of this. I hope the symptoms dubside for you very soon, I know how uncomfortable they can be. I still have not gone to the doc as I have other health issues right now which are taking precedence over that. I suppose I don't much see the point as I know I am not pregnant and am not a candidate for hormonal therapy anyway..not much she can do for me..except perhaps bloodwork to confirm that yes..it is menopause. I imagine there is a slight chance that it may be something else..am just hoping for now it's not. After I deal with my other issue in two weeks..I will look into it..or perhaps if they need bloodwork..they can just order that as well..if they would..and kill two birds w one stone..so to say. I'm just glad for now that the night sweats have gone away after 2-3 yrs..they were awfull. One more thing..last yr. my blood-pressure..which was always 90/60..shot up to 165/95..wondering now if that isn't also a side effect of menopause. Do you believe your high-blood pressure was a result of the menopause or the medication? Thank you for your reply and Blessings, chippi

Hello Chippi
That is what happened to me 1 year ago. I went from every 28 days to just stopped. Went to the doctor had ultrasound, blood work and in 2 weeks was told I was in menopause plus she put me on Hormone pills which scare me due to the risks.. My symptoms were horrible. Hot flashes, emotional, sleeplessness and my blood pressure went sky high. I was on hormones for 3 months and my period was out of control so I stopped. Now one year later I am going thru it all over again. I am so frustrated as I just don't know if Prempro is the right thing to be taking but it sure helps my symptoms. Just nervous about the cancer risk. I see doctor in about a month.

Hello again miscortes, Have not been to the doc yet..it is now August 5 and have not had a monthly cycle since April. I suppose I am sticking my head in the sand w this one. I had a tubal ligation way back in 1995 after my 10 lb. 10 oz. son was born..the pregnancy and natural delivery were very hard on my body. That was 16 yrs. ago..I am now 45. I am fearing pregnancy at this point as the past month or two "every" time I eat my stomach cramps up and I feel sick and I have been sleeping way too much lately..all of this is way too familiar to me..with three past pregnancies. I need to go out and buy a pregnancy test "today" and find out for sure what is going on. I have many health problems and a child at this age would be extremely hard for me..to carry, deliver and care for. I have not said a word of this to anyone..except here..I don't even like to think about it. I have a grandson who is 15 months who I take once a week and it takes my body days to come back after keeping up with him..cannot imagine doing that daily w one of my own. Well..let you know..if not..will have to see the doc eventually I suppose..Thanks, Chippi

Hi Chippi,
Well, it certainly sounds as if it could possibly be peri-menopause but I would certainly make an appointment with your physician in order to check out possible cyst issues since you have had them in the past. Just to be sure: better safe than sorry.

There are many reasons or possibilities for the lack of a period and sometimes we miss periods for no reason at all. Missing several periods in a row would be considered troublesome although at age 45, this would certainly be in the alley of menopause.

Can you keep us posted on what your physician says?

Thanks,
Missie

Thank You Missie, I have never missed a period before..except the three times I was pregnant..and that is not possible as I had a tubal ligation 16 yrs. ago after my 11 lb. son was born..LOL..I will eventually get to the doctor about this and will certainly post what she has to say. Thank you again..greatly appreciated. chippi
