Q:

Menopausal with fibroid - should I have a hysterectomy?

My gynecologist is recommending that I have a hysterectomy after living with irregular bleeding for a few months. I am 52 and in menopause. She believes the bleeding is caused by a fibroid as seen in an ultrasound. Why would she recommend this instead of surgery to just remove the fibroid? It seems too aggressive? I have an appointment in a few weeks and would appreciate advice on the questions I should ask. Thank you!

Thanks so much. Does anyone have resources on doctors in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area that have had success in fibroid removal vs. hysterectomies?
