Q:

Is jerking and twitching in the head, arms, legs, and feet associated with anxiety? uncontrollable head movement, head rushes, feeling lightheaded, and none of the head twitching is noticable to any1 but myself.

I'm a 17 year old female, and my only stress was worrying about my health. i just had a check up, doc said im health. but then i started all this twitching. recently my bf got locked up, not the twitching seems worse or at least i pay more attention to it! it happens more when i pay attention too it. its not noticeable to other, but i feel it, like ill be sitting here, and my head will make a little "jerk" to the side, not to bad though. is this anxiety? im worried. i thought it was a brain tumor, or MS! :( i am a hypochondriac too!

I'm having the same symptoms but I definitely don't think it's anxiety.

I am 18 and have just recently been experiencing these symptoms too! I think it might be anxiety induced because i am also a hypochondriac as well. These symptoms are heightened when i am in public or in school for some reason but at home its almost none existant. Idk why these things are happening but hopefully if i find the right anti-anxiety these strange feelings will go away. You're not the only one who is suffering from this, stay strong!

The drugs that they gave me are called serteline i have been taken them for a year now and i seem slightly better. I do seem to wonder that it maybe something else cause i just cant kick it.

Hi. I know this is a really old post but did you ever find out what was causing your symptoms and did they ever go away? How long did they last?

I have anxiety issues from time to time and I've noticed that when they're at their peak, I will twitch as I fall asleep and wake myself up. I've actually jerked myself off the couch once. I was also 17 when this first started happening. My husband jokes with me and says to stop thinking so much when I should be sleeping. He somehow made the connection, though I never would have thought anxiety would manifest in such a physical way before the neurologist told me so.

Hi kali.capps,
That is interesting...thank you for sharing!

We would love to hear more about how you cope with anxiety, both the emotional, mental and physical aspects. Any additional information you would like to share from your neurologist is interesting as well, and can help many women.

We look forward to hearing from you again!

Hi,
It sounds like you went to the doctor before your symptoms began? Did you speak with your doctor about any of these symptoms? Sure...your doctor can say, "you're healthy!" if you do not have observable symptoms, do not know/share them with the doctor, and if the doctor is not looking at these areas (we're not sure if you went to the GYN for an annual pap, to the dentist, family doctor for a cold...).

Uncontrollable head movements, twitching, and jerking of your limbs, combined with feeling lightheaded, can be symptomatic of either a physical condition (possibly neurological or cardiovascular) and/or a psychological condition (as you mentioned, anxiety disorder). It could be stress-induced, or an underlying medical condition.

Either way, please see a doctor today. Your family doctor (or any of your health care providers) can assess your condition, and refer you to the appropriate specialist for either (or both) physical and/or psychological issues.

Please let us know what your doctors are able to tell you, and we can help provide more information through your process.

Thanks so much. I went to my MD yesterday, she checked my lungs, heart, eyes (really good) (mad me follow her finger w/ my eyes, and checked them with the light on, and turned the light off and looked in them really good), stomach, blood pressure, and temp. She said that twitching i am experiancing is a neurogical symptom, how ever i am not experiancing any neurogical signs of anything. She said my eyes looked great and it is not anything to be concerned about. She said i may have some anxiety, and a little bit of depression. Do you think she would have noticed if it WAS neurogical by everything she checked? Im still scared she missed something, then again i worry about every little symptom i have. What do you think ?
